Briar will always hold a special place in my heart. I originally designed the typeface during the first summer of the pandemic, a time in which I had begun experimenting with type design form of expression after a period of creative burnout. I drew many of the initial sketches for Briar while outdoors, striving to channel nature’s beauty into the letterforms themselves. The result is a typeface that attempts to pay tribute to nature as a space of calm and healing for me during uncertain times. Four summers later, I have reworked the typeface to be fully variable, providing greater versatility and flexibility.
